Net Metering

If you, like many others, have ever done some reading about installing a solar array, I am pretty sure that you’ve come across the term Net Metering.

Net Metering is basically a grid-tied system, where your solar panels are connected to a public utility power grid, and any surplus power generated by those panels is transferred to that grid.  This allows customers to offset the cost of power that they might draw on from the utility.

So, in other words, this allows for you to offset your monthly consumption based on the generation of power from your own system.  If your power generation exceeds your usage, Net Metering may allow for an offset on your fixed charges, and may even end up giving you a credit in the following month.  This is a great way for homeowners and businesses to keep money in their pockets by going solar!

Net Metering

To put it in the simplest terms, Net Metering allows utility customers to generate their own power both cleanly and efficiently.  During daytime hours, most solar customers produce more electricity than they consume.  Net Metering allows them to export that power to the grid and to reduce their power bills.
